Who You Help

Over 80p in every £1 you spend on the Racing Lottery goes straight to Racing Welfare. This means that you are directly helping some extraordinary people-racing’s backbone, the lads and lasses, men and women who make your day at the races.

Each year Racing Welfare spends over £1.4 million helping racing’s people in need; people like:

John Ward
John Ward from Attelborough in Norfolk has worked in racing for over 25 years. In April 2010 he received a kick from a horse in his care that left him paralysed from the chest down. Our welfare officers have helped him with finding suitable accommodation, funding mobility aids and day to day support to help him to live with his disability.
Mick Carty
Mick Carty from Newmarket who has dedicated a lifetime to racing. He now lives in Wilfred Sherman House, one of the 150 properties owned and managed by Racing Welfare. His home is his for life, warm, safe and secure. Mick still gives his spare time to racing by raising money for Racing Welfare and mentoring and training young Newmarket apprentices on the Equiciser at the National Horse Racing Museum.
Trainees
Trainees at the British Racing School and the Northern Racing College. We fund the Lifeskills programme at both training centres. Helping racing’s latest recruits to learn about healthy living, social skills and the day to day requirements of life away from school, working in a racing stables.
